Updating a Dictionary

312 views | Print This Post

Tell you, to update a dictionary is a tough job. The authority to do it belongs to the author or publisher or to Mr. Webster or whoever is his authorized heirs nowadays… Tougher still is to update a published dictionary without authority.  Such act is obviously illegal and infringes the Copyright Law, the law on plagiarism or other related laws.

But how can I explain  these things or accuse or educate my 8-year old child Ethan Joss, who is on his 3rd grade at New Era University? His acts constitute all the essential elements required to establish probable cause for a criminal prosecution based on the afore-cited laws…The dictionary looks like this:

Ethan, perhaps not so contented with the contents of the children’s dictionary,  updated the said book and now looks like this:

Pictures 2 089

He just pasted his updates on page 9. Written  in pencil on his 3rd grade sheet, back to back, in his own handwriting…

Without his permission, I took the liberty of  posting here the contents – exactly how he had written it, complete with punctuation marks in “excellent” English grammar and capital letters.

“Dictionary of animals

coral snakes are poisonous their bites are deadly to human it will take 15 sec. until the victim dies.

Vulture

toucan.

horse.

horses are useful to humans. the humans can ride on it to make them more faster. they can also useful for the race.

See,  how flagrant was the violation?  A novel case of  invasion of intellectual property right.  A deliberate attempt to derail the literary standards of the authors.  The violator  had intentionally, willfully and feloniuosly converted the children’s dictionary into an 8-year old dictionary without any apparent authority! You be the judge…Guilty or not guilty? Here’s the only picture taken from the unsuspecting suspect/accused/culprit…with a possible accomplice in the background… :-D

    Hi Patrickstarj,

Yes, indeed. We must stop this daylight flagrant desecration of what is the respected reference for words in English.

Let’s send out a posse to catch the offender and punish him with hugs and kisses for possessing a singular mind that dares to be innovative.

For it is when these young minds are given support from their elders that they soon find their niche in what they will readily excel in the years ahead.

And to you Ethan Joss! I say this. Go for it! life is out there waiting for minds such as yours.

    God Bless you!

A little hard-headed but Ethan knows the value of a good message. He’ll be all right…
